Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of attending PCI?
PCI provides short term career training from
experienced healthcare professionals with small class sizes and hands-on
lab medical laboratory training. PCI ensures that students will be “job ready”
upon graduation. Daytime, afternoon and evening classes
are available to fit your busy schedule. Whether you are looking
to start your career or looking to change careers, the right
training can be a stepping stone to greater things.
Is the school accredited?
PCI Health Training Center is regulated
and approved to operate in the State of Texas by the Texas Workforce
Commission the Proprietary Schools Section. The school is approved by the
U.S. Department of Education as a Proprietary Institution of Higher
Education, enabling the school to participate in the federal Title IV
Student Financial Assistance programs. In addition, the Medical
Assistant and Psychiatric Assistant programs are approved for the
training of Veterans and other eligible persons by the Texas Workforce
Commission, Veterans Education.
What are the entry requirements to the school?
To be eligible for admission to PCI, an
applicant must have a High School Diploma or its equivalent or be beyond
the age of compulsory school attendance and be able to demonstrate the
ability to benefit from the training.
How do I know which program is right for me?
Only you can answer that question. Drop
by the campus for a visit with one of our admissions representatives and discuss which
program best suits your career goals.
How do I apply?
Application for admission may be made by
applying in person at the PCI Admissions Offices during normal business
hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) or by scheduling
an appointment with a PCI Admissions Representative.
When do classes start?
Our training programs “start dates” are
available approximately once a month. Students may choose from a variety
of class schedules that will accommodate their work, family or personal
schedules.
How long will it take me to complete a training program at PCI?
PCI training programs can be completed in
approximately 6 to 9 months depending on your chosen field of study.
Can I get student financial assistance?
PCI participates in the Title IV Student
Financial Assistance programs administered by the U.S. Department of
Education. Veterans and other eligible persons may use VA Educational
benefits for attendance in the Medical Assistant or Psychiatric
Assistant programs. Further, a number of federal, state and local
organizations offer a variety of financial help in the form of tuition
assistance, scholarships, daycare assistance, transportation assistance,
etc.
Am I too old to go to school?
Are you ever too old to improve your life and
the lives of your family? A significant number of PCI students are
working adults seeking to upgrade their skill sets or start a new career
in the medical field.
How many students are in a class?
The number of students will vary according to
your chosen course of study. PCI emphasizes smaller class sizes which
provide students with more one-on-one time with their instructors to
insure that you develop the necessary skill sets to be successful in
your new career.
Is the medical field a good career choice?
According to U.S. government statistics,
health care is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the
United States.
I am not a U.S. citizen, can I attend PCI?
Applicants who are not citizens or permanent
residents of the United States may enroll at PCI with an appropriate
Student Visa granted by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.
Foreign Students are encouraged to contact the school well in advance of
their planned enrollment date.
Will the school assist me in finding a job after graduation?
The PCI Career Services department provides
assistance and guidance with employment-appropriate resume design,
professional dress for interviewing, effective communication techniques
and interviewing skills, and assistance with job search and externship
placement.
Will PCI guarantee me a
job?
Although we are very proud of the success of our
graduates, in no case can or will PCI Health Training Center
guarantee any student a job
How does the Career Services Department help me find a job?
The Placement department stays abreast of
current job openings with healthcare employers through out the greater
Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. We assist students with scheduling
interviews with companies that match your career interests and work
qualifications. In addition, Career Services provides information to
currently enrolled students on companies offering temporary or
short-term employment. Many PCI students work part time to help meet
living and educational expenses.
