PCI Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advantages of attending PCI?
PCI provides short term career training from experienced healthcare professionals with small class sizes and hands-on lab medical laboratory training.  PCI ensures that students will be “job ready” upon graduation.  Daytime, afternoon and evening classes are available to fit your busy schedule.  Whether you are looking to start your career or looking to change careers, the right training can be a stepping stone to greater things.

Is the school accredited?
PCI Health Training Center is regulated and approved to operate in the State of Texas by the Texas Workforce Commission the Proprietary Schools Section.  The school is approved by the U.S. Department of Education as a Proprietary Institution of Higher Education, enabling the school to participate in the federal Title IV Student Financial Assistance programs.  In addition, the Medical Assistant and Psychiatric Assistant programs are approved for the training of Veterans and other eligible persons by the Texas Workforce Commission, Veterans Education.

What are the entry requirements to the school?
To be eligible for admission to PCI, an applicant must have a High School Diploma or its equivalent or be beyond the age of compulsory school attendance and be able to demonstrate the ability to benefit from the training.

How do I know which program is right for me?
Only you can answer that question.  Drop by the campus for a visit with one of our admissions representatives and discuss which program best suits your career goals.

How do I apply?
Application for admission may be made by applying in person at the PCI Admissions Offices during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) or by scheduling an appointment with a PCI Admissions Representative.

When do classes start?
Our training programs “start dates” are available approximately once a month.  Students may choose from a variety of class schedules that will accommodate their work, family or personal schedules.

How long will it take me to complete a training program at PCI?
PCI training programs can be completed in approximately 6 to 9 months depending on your chosen field of study.

Can I get student financial assistance?
PCI participates in the Title IV Student Financial Assistance programs administered by the U.S. Department of Education.  Veterans and other eligible persons may use VA Educational benefits for attendance in the Medical Assistant or Psychiatric Assistant programs.  Further, a number of federal, state and local organizations offer a variety of financial help in the form of tuition assistance, scholarships, daycare assistance, transportation assistance, etc.

Am I too old to go to school?
Are you ever too old to improve your life and the lives of your family?  A significant number of PCI students are working adults seeking to upgrade their skill sets or start a new career in the medical field.

How many students are in a class?
The number of students will vary according to your chosen course of study.  PCI emphasizes smaller class sizes which provide students with more one-on-one time with their instructors to insure that you develop the necessary skill sets to be successful in your new career.

Is the medical field a good career choice?
According to U.S. government statistics, health care is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the United States.

I am not a U.S. citizen, can I attend PCI?
Applicants who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States may enroll at PCI with an appropriate Student Visa granted by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service.  Foreign Students are encouraged to contact the school well in advance of their planned enrollment date.

Will the school assist me in finding a job after graduation?
The PCI Career Services department provides assistance and guidance with employment-appropriate resume design, professional dress for interviewing, effective communication techniques and interviewing skills, and assistance with job search and externship placement.

Will PCI guarantee me a job?

Although we are very proud of the success of our graduates, in no case can or will PCI Health Training Center guarantee any student a job

How does the Career Services Department help me find a job?
The Placement department stays abreast of current job openings with healthcare employers through out the greater Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex.  We assist students with scheduling interviews with companies that match your career interests and work qualifications.  In addition, Career Services provides information to currently enrolled students on companies offering temporary or short-term employment.  Many PCI students work part time to help meet living and educational expenses.
