What
our student are saying about PCI I came to PCI looking to make a career change.
I previously worked in the banking field for 10 years. Due to technology
and going from paper to electronic the financial field was looking grim.
I began my search for the best available medical office assistant
program. I came across PCI because the school provided job
assistance thru their great externship program and long after you
graduate. I found that their personable instructors, hands - on
learning and job placement to be among the high points for PCI. The
journey took hard work, determination, and focus. Today you can find me
working at the Renaissance Hospital as the Intake Coordinator. PCI
has prepared me to handle all of the pros and cons of the medical
office. I hope you enjoy your experience at PCI and your new
career in the medical field.
Sincerely,
Carmen, Medical Office Assistant Graduate August 2007

I am sure everyone's situations is
different, but before PCI, I felt stuck at a job I didn't like,
making hardly any money for the work I was doing. I decided to
go back to school because the medical field really interested
me. The instructors were great, and the hours where setup to let
me sill be able to work. I met all kinds of new people and it
was actually fun. When I left PCI i had the confidence to go and
interview, and got hired on my extern site. Now, a year later I
am still here with great money and benefits. I am very grateful
for PCI for changing the direction of my life.
Thanks

My name is Sharon,
I attended PCI health Training Center to become a medical
assistant. After years of doubting myself I was encouraged
by my fiancé to attend school and get a degree. After
talking with Terry Smiles about what PCI could offer, I made a
decision to enroll. My instructor was very encouraging and
kept us motivated. After months in the classroom I went to
externship and found out that I could do anything I set my mind
to. The extern site was helpful and willing to teach
additional skills. Career services worked with me to find
employment in the medical field.

My experience coming to PCI was one that made a big impact on my
life. I was first very scared about coming because I knew I
might be giving shots. But after getting a tour of the facility
and knowing the stuff I knew it was going to be a good
experience. After a few weeks of class and lab I felt very
comfortable about the decision I made. I am happy that I made
the choice to come to PCI. It has changed my life for the
better.
Thank You PCI!!

I
was enrolled and completed the psychiatric assistant / LCDC
program in 2001 under the teacher ms. Langston. I have always
wanted to but never took the time to tell you how much attending
PCI changed my life. When I started I knew that I was ready to
make a change in my life and do something different, but I
didn’t really know how that was going to happen. Well not only
did the knowledge that I received from PCI help me make those
designs that needed to be made, it also aided me in getting my
personal life together. The teacher had a “yes I’m in your face
making you deal with your stuff” kind of approach that was
incredible. The teacher challenged me beyond what I thought I
could do and this helped me face my biggest fears. She always
let us know that before you get into this work you have to deal
with your own personal daemons first. I didn’t think she liked
me in the beginning, but now I almost fell as though I owe her
my life.
She sent me to Johnny’s Manor to do my LCDC practicum and that’s
where it all began foe me. Johnny’s manor was a HIV/ AIDS
congregate housing facility for clients that were also substance
abusers. You may ask why is this relevant well it’s only if you
believe in divine intervention. I was supposed to do my
internship somewhere else, but the teacher made the choice for
me to go to Johnny’s manor. It was the HIV /IDS program that I
connected with from the moment that I met those clients and
understood the real need in our community I knew I was in the
right place at the right time.
While at Johnny’s Manor I was introduced first hand to real
world of HIV/AIDS and I started doing health groups. It was in
those groups that I realized how limited my knowledge of HIV
was, but increased my knowledge of the underlining issues of HIV
that far out weigh the diagnosis. So with that I started my
quest for knowledge, and I would attend workshops and classes,
and seminars and etc, etc, etc. I became an HIV/AIDS advocate
speaking at local churches, community affairs, community centers
and college campus just any where that people would listen to
me. My reward came in January of 2005 while browsing the
Internet for other training opportunities I came upon a training
from The Black AIDS Institutes African American HIV University.
I made an application and in April of 2005 I was accepted into
their 2 year program, I will be graduation June 10, 2007. The
program consist of 540 intense hours of HIV education where we
study everything from HIV 101, HIV Life cycle, immunology,
Pharmacokinetic, Pharmacogenetics, Vaccine Research to
Epidemiology and this is just a few. The one main focus of the
class is to know HIV and comeback to the community to help
mobilize teach and dispel myths within our community that fuel
stigmas that welcomes even more discrimination from within. It
is imperative that we help the people in our community to
understand the importance of testing and treatment.
I’m now an HIV Outreach Counselor and Prevention Educator I do
HIV presentation all over the city and sometimes out of the
city. I’m highly respected for the knowledge that I bring and
the lives that I’m causing to change. I’m able to incorporate my
skills from PCI with what I do such as facilitating groups
understanding the dynamics within the group. Identifying
behaviors just by using my objective and subjective listening
skills I mean just to name a little bit. I will be returning to
school in August 2007 at Dallas Baptist College to complete
working toward my BS in Psychology. I owe so much of this to
PCI, I mean had I not been there I would probably be still an
Accounting Clerk somewhere doing a job without any real meaning.
Again I want to say thank you guys so much for the time you gave
me, and if you are able to contact Ms. Langston please tell her
thank you and feel free to forward this e-mail to her.

Dear PCI,
My name is Tiffany I am a proud graduate from PCI Health
Training Center. I was enrolled in the Medical Office Assistant
program and I enjoyed every minute of it. What inspired me the
most was how the teachers and my classmates where very helpful
and supportive. I graduated in December 2007 and it was a joyful
experience to walk across a big stage with all the wonderful
people whom had the same dreams as I once had. Since going to
the school my life has changed my life I have a steady job now
and I am the one calling the school looking for externs and
future employees. I just wanted to take the time to say thank
you very much for helping in a time of need. I truly have been
blessed to attend such a divine school.
Sincerely

Dear PCI,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers,
staff and students for making my journey there a success.
I have come through many hard trials and to know that this world
still provides loving and caring people is a dream come true. I
have been a alumni for over a year now but still talk to my old
classmates as if we just left Ms. Burton's classroom, and when i
visit the campus it always feels like home. I know in my
heart I was not just a number for government funding but a
real person.
Thank You,

I am really glad that
I came to PCI for my Patient Care Technician training. I
really enjoyed the atmosphere and the instructors because they
are knowledgeable and went the extra mile to make sure I
understood what was being taught. Now I work for parkland
hospital and have been there for 2 years and am currently
enrolled at TWU nursing school. I appreciate all the hard
work and effort that PCI did that enabled me to become who I am
today.

The experience at PCI was a
life changing one for me. I never thought in a million
years that I would be in the medical field and actually loving
what I do. I love taking care of my patients being the one
that they can turn to. Without PCI and Marva Walker in
(Career Services) I would not be in the field I am in and I owe
that to PCI. I am glad I chose to go to PCI, the staff and
the students are awesome I would not change my experience at
PCI.
Thanks,
Nina
 My experience at PCI
has been life altering. The staff are so loving and
caring. It takes a special person to go into the medical
field and an equally special person to work at PCI; from
housekeeping to the owner and everyone in between. These
people really care! When I first started I was so nervous
about going back to school at the age of 45 now I'm nervous
about leaving, but I know I'm leaving with the knowledge and
skills needed to go in the medical world and help make it a
better place. Every city in America should have a school like
PCI so everyone has the wonderful opportunity to not only
continue there education but be blessed with the love and
lifelong friendships I have been blessed with at PCI. My
18 year old daughter just graduated from high school and
although she is interested in sports medicine, she is
considering going to PCI because of the wonderful memories that
I have been left with.Karin

I
started my career in the medical field May 2001 as a medical
receptionist at the Pediatric Clinic of Mesquite. At the time I
was comfortable with my position but as the months went by I
realized I liked what the medical assistants did. I would ask
for advice and they would tell me to go for it that it was a
nice field to go into. Months passes by with personal problems
and at my age I wasn’t very serious about going to school for
medical assistant. As the years went by and job after job in the
corporate America I realized that medical field was for me.
After applying numerous times at hospitals Parkland,
Presbyterian in the Dallas area never got a call back I was
running out of options and getting impatient.
Children's Medical Center Dallas was my dream job. I also
applied at Children's Medical Center Dallas numerous times but I
never got a chance. Finally after the last attempt and a bad
experience at my last job I finally made the decision to enroll
in the medical assistant program at PCI Health Training Center.
I learned Vital Signs, Injections, First Aid, CPR, ESR
phlebotomy, Triage, Microanalysis, Urinalysis, EKG, Glucose
Testing, and Capillary. Administrative skills from insurance
forms, CPT, ICD-9-cm Coding, OSHA Regulations, Insurance
Referral, Scheduling, charting, spreadsheets, filing, record
keeping.
After I finished my extern I applied one last time at Children's
Medical Center Dallas. Two weeks later I get a call from the HR
dept at Children's Medical Center Dallas. It was the happiest
day of my life!!!! Before that I do not think HR looked at my
resume having five to six years experience in the medical field
until they saw that I attended an accredited school for medical
assistant. At that point we schedule an interview. I interview
with two registered nurses, they informed me that they would
call me back. Two weeks past by and they called me again. I
interviewed with the manager for the Pulmonary Practice, she
then told me well you already interviewed with the nurses and I
gave them a list of 10 candidates and told them to pick the top
three. I was very flattered to be in the top three. Last but not
least my third interview was with the director. I had a feeling
I got the job. Sure enough a week later I got the job offer. I
was ecstatic, my dream of doing what I love to do with children
and taking care of them. The process was long but in the end it
was all worth it.
My point to this is follow your dreams, it is never to late, and
be patient in the end its all worth it. I would like to thank
PCI for accepting me as a student, there were many bumps in the
road as I attended school from personal, to financial but I
stayed positive and strong minded and didn’t let anything get in
my way of becoming a medical assistant. Thank You Again to PCI
for making my dream come true.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
