PCI ‘s Medical Assistant programs prepares a graduate to work as an entry-level Medical Assistant. Within this general career category there are a number of specialty areas, including Medical Administrative Office Assistant, Clinic Assistant, Clinic Tech, Medical Office Manager, Phlebotomist, Physical Therapy Aide in a doctor’s office, clinic or hospital out-patient clinic. Graduates will be able to check vital signs, assist in physical examinations, administer medications, perform electrocardiograms, and basic laboratory tests.
Our Medical Assistant program classes are taught in English; however, there are Bi-Lingual instructors available for additional assistance if needed and reference materials are available in Spanish.
The Medical Assistant program is taught with a combination of lecture and practical exercises in the medical and computer laboratories. During the classroom portion of training students will be introduced to a variety of subjects including Medisoft, front office skills, anatomy & physiology, pharmacology, first aid, and CPR. Students will receive hands-on laboratory training from the very first week of training. Training in the laboratory includes, injections, phlebotomy, EKG, urinalysis, using microscopes, autoclaving, and other clinical skills required in the medical office.The training includes a 200 hour “real world” experience at an externship site. Externship sites are typically doctor offices, clinics, laboratories, physical therapy sites, pharmacies, optometry facilities, dialysis centers, etc.
